Yanchep Lagoon

On Thursday night we decided that in the morning we will go for a ride up to Yanchep Lagoon and back home again. At about 5-30am we got up, Jenny had Breakfast and I had a couple Coffee. Got a few small things ready like Drinks, Bananas and Barley sugar.
About 6-15am we left our place and went on back streets all the way up to Wanneroo. From Ocean Reef Rd on we went on the Cycle path and joined the very busy Wanneroo Rd. again just before Burns Beach Rd. The traffic was very heavy and there were a lot of Trucks and Trailers going past us.

A few kilometers on we had our first break at the 10th Light Horse Rest Area. It's a nice stop with a Bench and Seat, but a shame a lot of the Travelers not using the Rubbish Bin provided. After about 15-20 min we jumped back on the Tandem and carried on with our ride. By about 8-30am we made it to the Yanchep Lagoon and stopped at the Shop for a Coffee and something to eat. 2 Toasted Sandwiches with Ham and Cheese we ordered, but got only Toast and Ham and no cheese. I would give it a -2 out of 5. Never mind, next time we know.

About 9-15am we started heading back the same way again. We had 2 short stops on the way and at Burns Beach Rd we turned left towards Joondalup. About 400m further on we went on the Cycle path that goes true the Yellagonga Regional Parks all the way to Greenwood. Just before Neil Hawkings Park in Joondalup, there were the remains of a Bush fire we had about 3 weeks ago.

Had another break by the BBQ area and had our last Banana and Apple. Then it was time to start the last leg of our trip towards home. Made it all the way without any problems. It was just on 12 o'clock by the time we pushed the Tandem into the Garage.

All together we done 90.4 km in 4 h 35min. riding time. The average was just on 20km/h . We been very pleased with what we achieved as this is the furthest Jenny ever has been on a bike. Well done.

Jenny is quite happy with the way she went with the new Seat. No real sore legs and she is still able to walk today.

Seat problems !!!!!!!!!!!!

On Wednesday the 12th of December about 6pm it was another ride out on the tandem for me to see if the different seat felt better. It sure did make a difference. And I will just have to show a picture of the before and after seat . We rode 28.5 km without any problems, but for me I would like to do about 70 km in the next few days to make sure its right this time.

Ride to Whitemans Park

On Sunday morning early it was time to do Tandem training .We headed off with a strong head wind coming from the east. We arrived by about 8:15 at Whiteman Park to find all shops were closed. So Coffee had to wait but we used the seats anyway to have a drink and eat a Banana.

Then off we went again to Ellenbrook, were we called in by Allan and Corrina( our Son and Daughter in Law) for the well over due Coffee. We gave them a call to make sure they were not in Bed.

After about 1/2 hour we carried on riding down Gnangara Road. At least the wind was not so bad going that way as it was pushing us along at a nice and easy speed of about 35 km/h. But I was having a little trouble with my seat, so I asked Werner to let me take some pressure off my Backside down the next hill. I only needed a few seconds and was ready to say ok, we can pedal now, when I look at my speedometer to see, we where doing 46km as it was, so I decided to say nothing. When we arrived back home we had done 48.5 km. It was a good ride other than I had to find the answer to my seat problem. We have replaced the seat and will see how my next ride goes.

Saturday Ride

Today I had a bit of a sleep in, because I couldn't make up my mind, if I'm going for a ride by myself or join Bike Force in Freo for my normal Saturday morning ride. In the end I opted for going by myself. Left at 6 am and headed straight towards the coast and went all the way to Fremantle. As soon as I turned towards the east, I could feel the Headwind was quite strong. Jut before Point Walters I hooked up with a group of 10 riders for about 5 km. They were riding about 28km/h and I found it a bit on the slow side, so I overtook them and left them behind me. When I went past the Raffle Hotel in Applecross I saw next to the Canning Bridge this Pelican having his Breakfast. Had to take a few Photos of this Fella.

After that I carried on along the Freeway North to the small Kiosk just before The Narrows Bridge.Had my well earned Cappuccino and while I was sitting there, a Bus hit a Car not far up on the Bridge. Did not sounded to bad but as I went past on the Bike I saw there was a lot of damage to the Car and the Person was still in the Car and was being helped by some People. I didn't hang around as already a lot of People were watching, what was going on.

Went for the first time along Wanneroo Rd home. Was a very fast ride, as I had most of the way a Tail wind and reaching speed close to 50 km/h on some parts. I managed to do 69.1 km in just under 2 1/2 hours of riding.

Our Tandem

This is our Tandem we bought about 5 weeks ago. We have planned to do a trip around Australia starting in the second half of next Year.

We will talk about that adventure later on.

Yesterday Jenny and I went for a ride in the best condition you can ask for Cycling. The temperature was 15 degree and by the time we got back home it was 21 degree. We went from Warwick via the City, Applecross to Fremantle where we stopped for a well earned Coffee. The way home was along the coast. We managed to do 76 km in an average of 22,5 km /h. This is the longest ride Jenny has done so far on a bike and she didn't pull up sore at all.
