To Saddle Creek

Werner must of past me while I was reading.Only joking I'm giving him a head start.

It felt like we were heading for Ayer Rock. It is so dry and not a lot of trees around just here.

We have been seeing more and more Boab Trees lately. So now Werner will be able to take lots of photo's of the different sizes of them.

Me checking out all the caravans coming in.A lot came and went again I must of frighten them away.

To Timber Creek

Leaving so early in the morning we miss seeing some of the scenery but maybe will get to see it another time.

I passed a few creeks on the way and the water looked inviting, but don't fancy swiming with the local croc's

As you drive pass the stray cows they just stand and steer and its only when Werner bikes past do they run fast away. They are not use too seeing bikes on the road.

Nice big shady camp ground at Timber Creek we only had problems with the dust when other big caravans came in.

At 5pm we went and watched the Croc's get feed at the back of the camp ground

To Sullivans rest area

I can see by the road it was once just a single center lane with just dirt sides.

It is hot and Werner will be glad when the day is over.Today is a big day with Werner cycling 178km

There was a few hills to climb and lots of caravans on the road but we made it ok.The Rest Area was very small and was quite crowded. I found a shady tree to park under, but it was still very hot and hard to get to sleep.

Back to Katherine

It was nice to be back in katherine and in the same camp ground that we left from nearly a week ago

Even the croc's have grown bigger since we left

This is my first sight of bats in trees,I thought you only saw them at night.

We had a lazy time for a week in Katherine but had to stay this long to get the van serviced. But we will head off on Sunday the 28th.

To Hayes Creek

This morning before we left we walked down to the Florence falls this was taken from the top at the lookout

I chose to just sit on the rock as I forgot to bring my togs. What a nice spot to start the day off

On our way we called in to see the giant ant mounds.Werner wanted to know if I could climb this one.I was standing here thinking about it.

We arrived in Hayes Creek camp ground and went to check out the pool. Looks like Werner needs some fake tan on the top of those legs.

In the evening we went to the Roadhouse for a Burger and drinks, looks like Werner has found a mate.

When my Burger came out I new I would be in trouble trying the get it into my mouth without losing most of it.It was very nice but I ended up giving Werner 1/4 0f it.
Tomorrow we head back into Katherine as we need to spend time there getting the van serviced and Werner giving the bike a good clean ready to leave next Sunday heading for the WA border
which we should cross on Wednesday or Thursday.

To Litchfield NP

We left this morning not sure where we would be staying tonight. The plans are to head slowly back to Katherine doing a few side trips on the way. Our first stop was Berry Springs which was a very nice place. The water would have been about 32 degree and it is such a nice picnic area.A place I would go again if in this area

Then on to Litchfield NP. The scenery through the park was not special to me and there has been a lot of bush fires through a lot of the park.

Now this was a lovely site. This is Wangi Falls a place we would have stayed but it was packed with caravans and we had to get past a lot of people to get this photo. The water was very cold. Great for a very hot day

Werner not impressed too many people.

We drove back to a place called Florence falls which has a bush camp and nice open spaces.

Rest day Darwin

We drove into Darwin today and did not stay very long.I only got to see a couple of things, there was no parking and heaps of people and just lots of big building around the place we visited a beach which was full of school children having a outing and then decided to head back to the cabin

We drove to the Botanic Gardens which was nothing very special other than this water display.Darwin was not what I expected it to be.But maybe when it is not so busy and you can have a better look around it might be better.

To Darwin

Because Werner has a flashing light on the front of his bike the photo has come out like this. But as you can see on coming traffic can see him very well

On the way to Darwin I could see lots of bush fires in the far off distance,That OK as long as they stay far away

The sign says 46 km to Darwin but I have only got another 20 km to go to get to our camp grounds today.

We had to get a cabin for the next 2 days, just out of Darwin as we could not get any camp sites and I had rung about 5 camp grounds a few days ago to find everything was booked out as the V8 racing was on in Darwin this weekend and school holidays start on the 20th.

To Adelaide River

When we leave in the mornings it is very dark but within the hour it slowly start to lighten up.Werner vest and pannier cover always stand out.

This is just another view of the 2 trailers that the hay caught on fire as he was driving. It was just so lucky a passing car stopped the driver allowing him enough time to unhook the truck.

The ant molds have got a lot bigger as we get closer to Darwin.

In Adelaide River we camped at the show grounds. We had a nice shade spot and there is a race course right behind us where there was a race meeting last weekend. We were told they have 2 race meeting a year.

In the toilets there were these dragon flys on the walls and once you went in they started to fly around which was a bit of a problem.

I loved this notice on the back of the toilet door

To Pine Creek

The shoulder on lots of today's road looked like this not very good for cyclist

In the NT we saw these notices along the way in some towns

It was here Werner fixed his 2nd puncture for this trip.We also lent jump leads to the owner of the car up the road, which had trouble starting it after running out of petrol .

The camp ground at Pine Creek was packed and we were glad to leave the next day.

At about 5pm we could here this large fire which was only about 400m away.I thought we might have to evacuate but it was put under control, but not before covering the camp ground with black ash.

Rest day Katherine

Whats that saying I learnt when I went to school

( Never smile at a crocodile ) And I didn't he was only about 10 m away and its about 75 m from our camp site. But being fresh water croc's they say they don't hurt you.

This is a fuller photo of where it is and they say there is about 18 in here altogether. Not swimming there even if they say they wont hurt me.

At this camp ground we meet up with Roger and his lovely wife Lilliana who we first met at the beginning of our trip last September

It nice when you met someone that you really feel comfortable with and that is how it was with Lilliana. Thank you both for the nice afternoon tea. Roger and Lilliana run at croc tour at night on a boat from the camp ground.

That night we saw a bit of a concert with these young Aboriginal boys

And Werner loves the didgeridoo and would really love one.He has been checking out some trees along the way to see if there are any hollow ones around. They are very expensive but I will look around when we get to Perth.
